Dermaplaning

Included in the Premium Glow Facial (£65) or combined with Microneedling (£100) — not available as a standalone treatment

Dermaplaning Treatment at SKIN CARD Clinic

Dermaplaning is an advanced exfoliating treatment that uses a surgical-grade scalpel to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair — commonly known as peach fuzz — from the surface of the skin. The technique requires a high level of precision and skill and is performed exclusively by trained clinical professionals.

Dermaplaning leaves the skin feeling immediately smoother, softer, and more radiant. By physically removing the barrier of dead cells and fine hair, the treatment dramatically enhances the absorption of skincare products, improves the application and longevity of makeup, and creates an ideal base for any additional clinical treatment. With zero downtime, it is one of the most accessible and instantly rewarding treatments available.

We frequently recommend dermaplaning as a foundational treatment for clients looking to improve the texture and luminosity of their skin. By removing the layer of vellus hair and dead cells, it creates the perfect, smooth canvas for other treatments. Dermaplaning is available two ways: built into our Premium Glow Facial (£65), or added to a Microneedling session (£100 combined) to achieve deeper, more consistent clinical results.

Pre-Care Instructions

To ensure your skin is in the best possible condition for treatment and to reduce any risk of sensitivity, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:

  • 7 Days Before: Discontinue the use of strong active ingredients and exfoliating products, including Retinol (Vitamin A), AHAs (e.g. Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid etc...), and BHAs (Salicylic Acid). These can thin the skin's surface and increase sensitivity during treatment.
Avoid unprotected sun exposure and sunbeds. Dermaplaning cannot be safely performed on sunburned or significantly sun-damaged skin.
  • Please Inform Us: Let us know if you have active acne breakouts, a skin condition such as rosacea or eczema, or if you are currently using any prescription topical medications including Roaccutane (isotretinoin), as this may affect your suitability for treatment.
  • On the Day: Please arrive with a clean face, free of makeup and skincare products.

After-Care Protocols

Dermaplaning carries zero downtime, but your skin will be freshly exfoliated and temporarily more sensitive. Follow these simple steps to protect your results:

  • The First 24 Hours: Avoid applying active skincare ingredients such as retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or vitamin C. Stick to a gentle cleanser and a hydrating moisturiser only.
  • Sun Protection is Essential: Apply SPF 50 before leaving the clinic and continue to wear it every day for at least one week following your treatment. Freshly exfoliated skin is significantly more vulnerable to UV damage and hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid Heat: For the first 24 hours, avoid prolonged hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms, as heat can cause temporary redness or sensitivity on freshly treated skin.
  • Makeup: You may apply makeup the following day. Because dermaplaning removes the layer of fine hair that can trap product, you will likely notice an improved, smoother finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my facial hair grow back thicker?

No. This is one of the most common myths about dermaplaning. Vellus hair (peach fuzz) has no follicular connection to the hormonal system that controls terminal hair growth. Dermaplaning removes hair at the surface only — it cannot alter the structure, colour, or growth rate of your hair. When it regrows, it will feel and look exactly the same as before.

Is there any downtime?

There is zero downtime with dermaplaning. Most clients return to their normal routine immediately after the treatment. You may notice a slight pinkness to the skin for an hour or two, which resolves quickly. Because your skin will be freshly exfoliated, we recommend avoiding direct sun exposure and applying SPF for the remainder of the day.

Is dermaplaning suitable for my skin type?

Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types, including dry, dull, and mature skin. It is particularly beneficial for those wanting to improve product absorption, skin texture, or achieve a flawless base for makeup. It is not recommended for skin with active acne breakouts, rosacea flare-ups, or highly sensitive skin conditions. A consultation is always conducted prior to treatment to confirm suitability.

How often can I have dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is typically recommended every 4 to 6 weeks, which aligns with your skin's natural cell turnover cycle. Regular treatments help to maintain consistently smooth, bright skin and maximise the effectiveness of any additional skincare treatments or products used alongside.
